• It’s now 7.30am Monday morning. It’s a very different atmosphere to Friday. There’s only three people in, it’s quiet. I’m on my first tea, which I’ve just found was made with bloody off milk. Curses.

I like this time of day, chance to think, get ahead. There’s a comforting sound of the radio from the other end of the building. Busy week to come, the Church seems to taking a deep breath in preparation.

You’ll notice posters of attractive women above my desk. That’s because I’m working on this (ironic for a man with no hair and no sense of fashion). Means I’ll be planning to follow this.

So it’s 5ish and I’m sat at my desk, thinking about a presentation structure. I need a quick break and decide to do a 5 minute post..

It’s been a hell of week – mostly great, but with some of those teething troubles you always get when you’re trying to learn lots of new things at once. I’m tired – but that good tired when you know it’s been worth it.

This end of the Church has been quiet for a couple of hours, everyone’s had their heads down getting stuff done before the weekend. Then someone plugs his Ipod into the speaker system……

There’s a palpable change in the atmosphere. The throbbing bass forms some sort of soundtrack to that final happy push to get things finished. We’re tired, but that’s okay, we like doing what we do and we wouldn’t do anything else. Some of us may be here for a long while yet, but we care so that’s sort of fine too.

This is the rythm of Friday afternoon ebbing away into Friday night. It’s the hum of people working as a team. They’re thinking and feeling all this without even knowing it.

This is where I work now.

    Good this.

  • I’m not sure if anyone’s noticed,  but there’s been bugger all activity round these parts recently. Sorry about that, I’ve been busy finding my feet, getting my head down and any other cliche you want to apply to being the newboy.

    Back to normal next week.

  • How did that happen?

  • Contagious Magazine asked me to post their Most Contagious 2007 thingy. So I have. Enjoy.

  • We were in Cornwall for New Year. It may have been winter, but there were still families playing on beaches, and just like summer, the kids would pester Dad to help them build a sandcastle.

And of course, the kids soon get bored and go paddling or something. But, equally axiomatic,  Dad’s into building his grand piece of architecture and carries on regardless…..

  • So I work here now…….

No I’m not joining the clergy, theres an agency in that church.

The tea is good, my laptop works and I have a desk. Even better, I haven’t spilt a beverage on myself, or anyone else yet (which is good going as regular readers will know).

More importantly, the people are really, really nice. It’s really odd having other planners to talk to, and really great.

I also wrote a pitch brief on my second day.

    Good this.

That’s pretty much it this year.  I’m lounging around not working for a couple of days before two days at the new job…..then it’s Christmas.

So, apart from a bit of lurking on other people’s blogs, see you in January.
