What are the things that get you really riled about working with agencies? I need a favour if you can spare the time, can you spare five minutes to let me know five things you would change? I would greatly be in your debt. Anything from the client side doubly do.
Might make interesting reading anyway.
As a bribe, first one to comment gets a free copy of Everything Bad is Good For You by Steven Johnson, or either Paul Arden book.
1) Timesheets – I understand why its done but I dont think the pressure of timescales adds to the creative process. It might take you ten minutes to come up with a great idea on a 10hour budget or 72 hours to come up with an idea but you only have 1 hour.
2) Companys that expect people to be creative in dull surroundings
3) Smarmy people who are too scared to be themslelves and will only talk about stuff they think is cool to others. too cool for school folk
4) Clients that think they don’t need manners – we’re working as a partnership to make a success and bad relationships surely dont provide the best work
5) Pessimistic people who are down on people or ideas just because they’re different

1.Everything is the first priority.
2.Meeting in the early morning.
3.Short notice deadline.
4.Clients kill the agency’s ideas when things turn bad, they blame us on what we don’t need at first.

I can only think of 3 things at the moment. Only one of which particularly riles me. Obviously these are general observations, I’m not suggesting all agencies are guilty of the following…
1) Flashy receptions & meeting rooms then dull uninspiring offices where people actually work.
2) Consistent lateness
3) Pre-emptive dissing/undermining of my work. I haven’t even said anything yet and there’s someone from an agency making comments to cast doubt on it just in case…

Got to agree with the flashy receptions thing Helen, not to mention constant lateness – something I’m working on myself at the moment.
