We may be done with the past but the past is not done with us

Someone I know was the last boyfriend of a lovely girl who came out a month after dumping him. Made him question himself.

Not in that league this, two agencies I used to work at are on the ropes. The first has a credit crunched bank as the biggest client, the second basically mis-managed itself into a fire sale and finally liquidated a year or so after. I’m crossing my fingers for other past employers.

Joking aside, I’m not sure how I feel about the one that has just been forced to close it’s doors. I had a mixed time there. Some great memories of some good people are mixed with some less cherished ones. One one hand, the recent news is laced with subtle trace of Schadenfreude (can’t be arsed to spell check that).

But then, this was a lot of people with jobs, debts and families. And the place had a once proud history, I learned a lot there too. I’m where I am now because of bad things there as well as good. Hard to complain at that.

I’m not sure how to feel. Sad though.

    Working relationships are quite like relationship relationships in so much that when they break up [even if it’s all good natured], there’s an initial period where a teensy part of you hopes the other party never finds as much happiness/success as they once enjoyed when with you.
    Not only that, but you hope that you will shine even brighter than before [to a level the other person can’t help but notice] because you want to believe that in the big scheme of things YOU were the reason it all was so good for a time.
    Of course it’s complete and utter bollocks and within a matter of days you’re forgotten and they go on to do stuff you are insanely jealous of, but it’s all part of our short-term, internal “emotional ego protector” – so I do understand what you’re thinking/going through but like you said, putting bad decisions/bad luck aside, there’s a bunch of people’s livlihoods who are now in the poo and that’s not good for anyone – except for the CEO’s who made self-serving decisions … which I have no idea whether is the case in the situations you describe.

    I assume you are referring to the place in Leeds that just shut?
    The other I am not sure where you mean.
    In this industry things move so fast, its likely that most agencies have troubled times every decade.
